Rhode Island’s beloved annual celebration of veganism is back! RI VegFest, the Ocean State’s only fully vegan festival, is set to take place on February 4th and 5th, 2023, at the iconic WaterFire Arts Center in Providence. This two-day event promises an exciting showcase of plant-based foods, drinks, and businesses, all coming together to highlight the joys and benefits of compassionate, sustainable living.
Sponsored by a diverse group of local and national supporters—including Narragansett Beer, Vedge Your Best podcast, Bootstrap Compost, Topo Chico, and Spirit of Change—RI VegFest has quickly become a cornerstone for anyone curious about or committed to plant-based lifestyles.
A Feast for the Senses and the Soul
This year’s lineup is nothing short of impressive. Over 85 vegan and vegan-friendly brands from ten states will fill the festival with mouthwatering flavors and innovative products. Attendees can expect to sample and purchase from standout vendors such as Wildflour Bakery, Thrive Tribe Café, The Donut Shack, High Tide Mushroom Farm, Plant City, Off Our Rocker Cookies, and Nourish Vegan Artisan Cheese, among many others.
Beyond the delicious food and drink, the festival also offers a chance to connect with regional, national, and international non-profits dedicated to environmental, animal welfare, and health causes. For instance, an animal rescue group founded by a Rhode Islander and based in Cancun, Mexico, will make a special appearance, adding an inspiring global perspective to this local celebration.
Growing With Purpose: Sustainability at the Forefront
One of the defining features of RI VegFest is its commitment to sustainability. Recognizing that food festivals can generate substantial waste, the organizers have partnered with Bootstrap Compost, a local compost processing company, to dramatically reduce landfill contributions.
Robin Dionne, the festival’s founder and a vegan of over 25 years, emphasizes this ethos: “At our last event, RI Vegtoberfest, Bootstrap Compost helped us cut landfill waste by 95%. For a gathering of over 1,500 people, leaving just nine small bags of non-compostable trash was incredible. We are eager to see how much even more waste we can divert from the landfill at this year’s larger event.”
To support this green initiative, the festival will use as many fully compostable materials as possible, further underscoring its mission to promote a compassionate and environmentally responsible lifestyle.
A Community Rooted in Compassion and Exploration
RI VegFest is more than just a food festival—it’s a vibrant community builder. Founded by Robin Dionne to bring together plant-based eaters and curious newcomers alike, the event offers a welcoming space to explore, learn, and celebrate vegan living in all its diversity.
“It’s been amazing to witness the growth of vegan options not only in Rhode Island but across the country,” Dionne shares. “RI VegFest is a place where food lovers of all backgrounds can enjoy incredible plant-based cuisine, discover new brands, and deepen their understanding of the benefits of compassionate eating.”
Whether you’re a longtime vegan, someone considering a plant-based lifestyle, or simply eager to taste exceptional food, RI VegFest offers an enriching experience for everyone.
